Today marks a new chapter for our team, our clients, and the work we do. Sidebar and GeekHQ have officially merged to form Onyx Labs, and we couldn’t be more excited about what that means.
How we got here
Sidebar and GeekHQ have always shared more than just clients, we’ve shared a vision. Both companies were built around the belief that great technology, delivered by people who genuinely care, makes a real difference for the businesses we work with.
Over time, it became clear that operating as two separate entities wasn’t serving anyone as well as it could. Our teams were collaborating constantly, our services were deeply complementary, and our clients were increasingly asking for both. The logical next step was to stop dividing our energy and bring everything together properly.

What Onyx Labs means
Under one roof, Onyx Labs brings together web design and development, domain and hosting management, and AI-powered services. All supported by a unified team and a single point of contact for billing and support meaning no more juggling relationships across multiple providers and no more wondering who to call.
The name itself reflects what we’re about. Onyx: something refined, durable, and distinctive. Labs: the curiosity, the experimentation, and the craft that drives everything we build. Together, they capture exactly the kind of company we want to be.
What’s changing
For our clients, the transition has been designed to be as seamless as possible. Billing is now unified under Onyx Labs with updated payment options, our branding and contact details have moved to onyxlabs.co.nz, and our labour rate and payment terms have been updated to reflect the expanded team and capability we bring to every engagement. Clients have already been notified of the specifics directly.
All existing service terms remain in place. The work continues, just bigger, better, and under one brand.
What’s not changing
The people. The care. The commitment to doing work we’re proud of. The same team that built your website, manages your hosting, or powers your AI tools is still here, we’ve just stopped splitting ourselves across two doors.
